What: Free Neighborhood Plant Exchange

When: Saturday, March 31, 2012

Time: 12 noon – 4 pm.

Where: 3811 Lakeshore Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, easy parking

Cost: Free

Have plants you must prune or cull? How about trading your excess with others in your neighborhood? Take home new plants for your yard and have an instant new garden. All free.

All types of plants welcome–small cuttings up to full size: succulents, tropicals, ground cover, flowers, wild grasses, vines, bushes, bulbs, clippings, etc.

No time to re-pot your donations? No problem–bags and newspaper will do.

Remember: Great finds come in throughout the day!  You may want to visit a couple times.

Gardening accessories and accents also welcome: stepping stones, pots, trellises, trowels, driftwood, pond supplies and other landscaping accents and tools.  Even composters and lawn furniture are gladly accepted.  Gloves, watering cans, pruning sheers will all find a new home. We can even accept livestock: Okay, only goldfish or Koi!

We donate leftover plants: Plants that are left over are donated to good homes.  Do you have a school that may be interested?  Please let us know.

Gardening Questions? We have 2 horticulturists available to answer your toughest questions.

Early Donation: Landscapers and Gardeners… Let us know if you want to drop off your donations early!  They will be gladly accepted.

Bring: newspaper, bags, cardboard boxes to carry plants home in.

Tell us a bit about the donated plants. You may use the Plant Information Form (located by clicking on the link at the top of the page), then download the form. Please fill out and attach one form to each plant you are bringing. Their new owners will really appreciate it!

• flowering annuals – wide selection
• ground cover

• jade plants
• cactus – various sizes and varieties. Many are quite large.
• wild grasses
• day lilies
• chrysanthemums
• succulents – many varieties
• spider plants.
• small trees

If you see your donation on this list, don’t be concerned about duplication. There are many varieties and colors of the same plants. Bring yours along.

Plant Exchange Flyer Fall 2011

We had a great turn-out for the Plant Exchange in March. Four hundred people attended even though it ranined and more than 2,500 plants, large and small, found new homes. The next Exchange will be on Saturday, October 15, 2011, noon to 4 p.m.

It is gratifying to know that the plant exchange benefits the community beyond individual gardeners, especially schoolchildren.
